Why choose an expert-led Expedition?

Birding in the Maltese Islands is a unique experience that requires more than just a map. To truly unlock the potential of the archipelago, local expertise and strategic planning are essential.

Real-time strategic mobility

Migration in the Mediterranean is highly dependent on wind patterns and weather shifts. With around 40 years of field experience and 10 years of professional guiding, Edward utilises real-time data to ensure you are positioned at the right watchpoint, at the precise moment activity peak.

Unrivalled scientific authority

As the Lead Administrator of the official national records and a leading figure in raptor coordination, Edward provides a level of insight that goes beyond basic identification. You gain an insider’s perspective on migration trends, rarity history, and the finer details of Mediterranean birdlife.

Logistics & professional ease

Navigating Malta’s off-the-beaten-path locations and visiting key conservation areas requires deep-rooted local standing. We manage all the underlying logistics and specialised field hospitality, providing a seamless experience that allows you to remain focused entirely on the birds.

Our Expeditions

Available expeditions

Each expedition is tailored to the individual and the specific date of visit. We design our routes based on current bird movements and the seasonal highlights of the Maltese archipelago.

Because Edward remains active in a senior professional career, expeditions are offered on a selective, pre-booked basis.

Please note that our offerings change with the seasons; during the height of summer, we typically offer focused half-day sessions to align with peak bird activity and ensure guest comfort. We highly recommend contacting us as early as possible to align our availability with your travel dates. Whether you have a few hours or several days available, every expedition is designed to provide a rewarding, productive, and memorable experience in the field.

Testimonials

Gregory Brown & Mary Hubbell, USA

Date of visit: February 2019

“My wife and I spent a day with Edward touring Malta and looking for birds in a variety of habitats. Ed was a fabulous host and showed us a number of locations that we would never have known about if we were on our own.

He is extremely knowledgeable and personable and we had a marvellous time with him. Highlights included Blue Rock-Thrush, Little Gull, Sardinian Warbler, Audouin's Gull, and others.

As birders who spend most of our time in North America it was essential to have someone show us around the island and help pick out the species.

We highly recommend his services."
